Le jeune australien Throttle est la dernière sensation internationale signée chez Spinnin’. Après un remix remarqué sur Avicii il y a quelques années, la carrière de Robbie Bergin décole enfin et c’est un plaisir de le voir enfin tourner en Europe pour des shows. A l’occasion de sa première venue en France à Barcarès, nous avons pu recueillir ses impressions à chaud juste après son set au Day 1 de l’Electrobeach. On vous laisse découvrir ce jeune artiste ultra talentueux à la bonne humeur débordante et communicative.

Salut Robbie ! C’était ton premier show en France, comment était ton set !
Exact, première fois ! C’est incroyable, c’était vraiment énorme. Je ne savais pas trop à quoi m’attendre. Vous ne savez jamais quand vous vous rendez dans d’autres pays ce que les fans vont aimer, si ils vont apprécier le style disco que je joue. Donc ce n’est pas toujours évident mais c’était vraiment incroyable. La foule était vraiment folle. C’est super en allant dans un autre pays de voir qu’il apprécie aussi une musique groovy disco plutôt que juste les morceaux big room qu’on a l’habitude de voir dans des aussi gros festival aujourd’hui.
Plus globalement, cette année c’est la première fois que l’on te voit te produire dans les plus grands festivals du monde. Tu as joué à l’EDC Las Vegas et tu seras aussi à Tomorrowland cette année, la semaine prochaine. C’est une grande étape dans ta carrière, qu’en penses-tu ?
Ouais tout cela arrive vraiment vite ! J’ai commencé à faire des shows qu’en Mars cette année. J’ai fait une tournée avec Oliver Heldens en Mars en Amérique. Et oui les premiers vrais festivals que j’ai fait c’était il y a un mois avec l’EDC New York et l’EDC Vegas. Et maintenant j’ai l’Electrobeach et Creamfields bientôt. Tout ça arrive tellement vite !
Tu as des gros shows mais tu as aussi beaucoup de succès avec tes productions. Tu as sorti ‘Waiting’ et ‘September’, qui a atteint la première place du Top Beatport. Comme tu sens avec tout ce succès autour de ta musique en ce moment ?
Ça a déjà décolé depuis ‘September’, c’est le premier morceau que beaucoup de DJs ont joué, et qui en effet a atteint le top Beatport. Depuis il y a eu ‘Waiting’ et ensuite ‘Money Maker’, mais ‘September’ a vraiment lancé cette ascension. Je pense que quelque chose d’assez gros arrive aussi avec la version vocale de ‘Money Maker’. Je peux pas trop en parler mais il y a un clip vidéo. Je montrerais une petite preview bientôt. Une toute nouvelle version vocale avec deux nouvelles voix dessus, ça a l’air bien.
Tu as un numéro 1 Beatport, tu as gros shows. Quels sont tes prochains objectifs ? Car tu as accomplies presque tout ce que l’on peut souhaiter cette année !
J’aimerais faire un show entièrement live dans les 5 à 10 ans. Ce n’est pas quelque chose qui peut se faire tout de suite, car ça requiert du temps, de l’argent, une équipe et des plus grandes compétences de production. Donc 5 ou 10 ans, pas quelques mois. Donc mon but sera de faire un show 100% live, car le live c’est l’avenir.
‘Waiting’ a été ta première collaboration n’est ce pas ?
Ma première grosse collaboration oui.
C’était comment de travailler avec un aussi gros artiste qu’Oliver Heldens ?
C’est marrant on me pose toujours cette qustion. J’ai toujours vu Oli comme un frère. On se connait depuis si longtemps. On se donnait des feebacks sur nos morceaux depuis longtemps. C’était tellement facile de travailler avec lui car on connait tellement bien nos goûts respectifs. Il y a eu beaucoup d’aller retours mais c’était vraiment sympa. Et je n’étais pas genre « oh mon dieu je travaille avec Oliver Heldens » !
Au début de ta carrière, tu avais pour habitude de donner ta musique en free et maintenant tu es signé sur un gros label comme Spinnin. Tu penses que c’est quoi le meilleur moyen de donner ta musique à tes fan ?
Je pense que la musique gratuite c’est génial. C’est un bon moyen de commencer sa carrière, et un bon moyen de la maintenir. Je n’ai pas l’intention de sortir de musique uniquement via des signatures officielles. Je veux sortir des morceaux en free, des vidéos gratuites, ce qui peut paraitre fou avec les restrictions d’aujourd’hui sur les différentes plate-formes. Je veux m’assurer que mes vidéos sont gratuites et sortir des free download, des mashup gratuits. Je n’ai pas l’intention de rester bloqué avec des gros organismes comme Spinnin ou d’autres labels majeurs.

Hi Robbie ! It’s your first time performing in France, how was your set ?
Yeah, first time ! It’s amazing. It was sick. I didn’t know what to expect. You never know going to other countries what the fans would like, wether they gonna love the disco music that I play. So it’s tough sometimes but it was amazing. The crowd was really insane. It’s nice to see when you’re going to an other country that they appreciate groovy disco music rather than just big room stuffs you’re used to in so bigger festival these days.
More globally, this year is the first time we see you performing at the biggest festival in the world. You performed at EDC Las Vegas and you will also take part to Tomorrowland this year, next week. It’s a big step in your carreer, what do you think ?
Yeah it’s all happening really quickly. I started playing shows only March this year. I did the tour with Oliver Heldens in March towards America. And yeah the first real festivals that I’ve done started a month ago with EDC NY & EDC Vegas and now Electrobeach & Creamfields tomorrow. It’s all happening so quickly.
You have a lot big gigs but you also had a lot of success in production. You released ‘Waiting’ , ‘September’, wich toped the Beatport chart, so how do you feel about the success of your music right now ?
It’s already taking off since ‘September’, that was the first record I had connected with DJs a lot & yeah toped the beatport chart. Since then it’s been ‘Waiting’ & then ‘Money Maker’ but ‘September’ kicked this rise off. I think something pretty big is coming with the vocal version of Money Maker. I can’t reveal too much about that but there is a music video, I’ll show you a sneaky preview later. Full new vocal version with two new singers on it, it’s looking good.
You have a top one beatport, you have big gigs. What are your next objectives ? Because you achieved almost everything this year !
I wanna do a full live show in the next five or ten years . It’s not something that can happen right away , something that requires time, more money for the shows, more people for the shows and biggest skill production. So that’s why five or then years not a couple of months. So my goals will be to do a full live show, because live music is the future.
So I Think Waiting war your first collaboration right ?
My first big collaboration yeah.
How was it to work with such a big artist like Oliver Heldens ?
It’s funny I am always asked that. I always see Oli like a brother. We’ve been in touch for so long . We’ve been giving feedbacks on each others songs for such a long pretty time. It was so easy to work with him because we knew each others taste so well. It was a lot back & forwards but it was a really good process. And I was not like “oh my god I’m working with Oliver Heldens”
At the beginning of your carreer you used to deliver your music for free and now you’re signed to big label like Spinnin. So what do you think is the best way to deliver your music to your fan ?
I think free music is great. It’s a geat way to start your carreer and a great way to maintain your carreer. I’ve no plans to just release music for signed official release. I want to put out free music, free videos, wich might sound silly since these days they’ve been restricted on different platforms. I wanna make sure my videos are free and doing free downloads, free mashups. I don’t intend to keep stuck with bigger cast like Spinnin and major label
